Solix BioSystems is the leading provider of integrated solutions and services that enable large scale cultivation of algae.

Solix’s highly scalable, Lumian™ algal production systems enable large-scale, cost efficient production of crude algae products that are competitive with equivalent products derived from fossil fuels or produced from land crops. The Lumian system is robust enabling it to be deployed in a wide range of environmental conditions. Solix works with partners interested in using its Lumian technology to produce products derived from algae.
At the core of Solix’s Lumian Algae Growth System (AGS™) are Solix’s proprietary, cost efficient photobioreactors or Lumian panels, designed to maximize light penetration and the mixing of CO2 for optimized algae growth. Additionally, as the Lumian panels contain the algae (as compared to in an open pond) means they are ideally suited for the cultivation of genetically modified microalgae.
Solix’s proprietary extraction processes are providing streams of crude algae oil and residual biomass to customers interested in downstream product development. The algal biocrude Solix produces can be converted into a number of products including biodiesel, green diesel, bio-jet and specialty chemicals. The remaining biomass, which is high in proteins and carbohydrates, can be used in aquaculture, animal feed, food ingredients and supplements.
In 2009, Solix began operating its demonstration plant in southwestern Colorado, successfully scaling its Lumian technology by more than 15 x per basin, going from a 4000 liter cultivation scale to over 50,000 liters per basin. The facility utilizes produced water and waste CO2 from an adjacent oil and gas operation thereby demonstrating the suitability of the Lumian technology to use industrial waste streams.
Solix BioSystems’ team consists of engineers and biologists with the experience and knowledge in designing and constructing robust production systems that maximize algae growth and product output.
